Reading this article and comments really helps understanding, which kind of trouble my girlfriend is going through. She’s doing her PhD in Biochemistry at the Harvard Medical School.
The environment she’s working in, is pure competition. The lack of collaboration efforts in her lab is a huge waste of resources and motivation.
As competition is a key motivator, I for my part have to admit: I love competition. BUT:
- Sabotage is more than cheating, it’s what makes you a loser
- I’m aiming to achieve something with my team, and I have a great one!
- Science is more of a fame game to me than real business
